Lubbock, Texas, 10/8/2008 - Choice Music Events and the Yselta Independent School District are proud to present the Southwest Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico Festival for the 2009 festival season. The festival will follow the standard format of Choice Music EventsÕ popular Showcase of Music festivals and will include additional value for participants.

As with all Showcase of Music festivals, the Southwest Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico Festival will be open to all classes for both adjudicated and non-competitive performances. The festival will also include an after performance clinic for each ensemble, a final featured performance with all performing groups and awards, and most outstanding ensembles of the day in Mariachi and Folklorico will be recognized.

"We are very excited to open up this new festival with the sponsorship of the Ysleta Independent School District," said Dick Clardy, executive director of Choice Music Events. "Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico ensembles have an established presence in school districts across Texas and are extremely deserving of an opportunity to exemplify the hard work and talent of their performing students and educators."

The festival is divided into two performance days at the Riverside High School Theater. Friday, March 27th will consist of the Folklorico ensembles from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 28th will involve all Mariachi ensembles from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The festival will conclude on Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. concert in the Ysleta Central Office Theater. The concert will feature Los Arrieros and awards will be handed out during the concert.
